I Love U Guys Standard Response Protocol

The safety and well-being of our students and staff remains our highest priority at Holly Area Schools. How classrooms respond during an incident is an important part of keeping students and staff safe. Weather events, fire, accidents, intruders, and other threats to student safety are scenarios that are planned and trained for by students, teachers, staff, and administration, in partnership with our first responders. 

Holly Area Schools has adopted the Standard Response Protocol (SRP), a crisis response protocol developed by the "I Love U Guys" Foundation. The "I Love U Guys" SRP is used by over 50,000 schools, agencies, and organizations around the world.

The SRP incorporates many of the concepts we already use but offers more clarity and consistency in terminology among schools and first responders across the county, state, and country. It is based upon five actions: HOLD, SECURE, LOCKDOWN, EVACUATE, AND SHELTER. Each has specific staff and student directives that are unique to the action.

Posters like these are displayed throughout our buildings. Students and staff will become familiar with the protocol as it is practiced during state-required drills throughout the year. The clear language and directions of the protocol will make it easy for visitors and guests at our buildings to also safely follow SRP directions.


Students are trained to:

  • Clear the hallways and remain in their area or room until the "All Clear" is announced
  • Business as usual

Adults and staff are trained to:

  • Close and lock the door
  • Account for students and adults
  • Business as usual


Students are trained to:

  • Return to the inside of the building
  • Business as usual

Adults and staff are trained to:

  • Bring everyone indoors
  • Lock the outside doors
  • Increase situational awareness
  • Account for students and adults
  • Business as usual


Students are trained to:

  • Lock the classroom door by engaging the Night Lock device
  • Move away from sight
  • Maintain silence
  • Do not open the door

Adults and staff are trained to:

  • Recover students from the hallway if possible
  • Lock the classroom door by engaging the Night Lock device
  • Turn out the lights
  • Move away from sight
  • Maintain silence
  • Do not open the door
  • Prepare the evade or defend


Students are trained to:

  • Leave stuff behind if required to
  • If possible, bring their phone
  • Follow instructions

Adults and staff are trained to:

  • Lead students to the Evacuation location
  • Account for students and adults
  • Report injuries or problems


Hazards might include:

  • Tornado
  • Hazmat

Safety Strategies might include:

  • Evacuate to the shelter area
  • Seal the room
  • Drop, cover and hold
